This weekend I was laying on the couch being a bum when Ironman Kona came on TV. Watching the athletes pouring their hearts and souls into their swims, bike rides and runs made me want to get up an move. How could I lay around and watch other people work so hard?
Since I was in the Poconos, I decided to take my bike out for a spin. I hadn’t ridden a bike since we went trail riding in August and I knew that the mountains would make for an awesome ride. There’s nothing like flying down a hill and then giving it your all to push yourself back up, to start all over again.
About halfway through my ride, I caught a glimpse of the sunset from behind the trees. My ride became a mission to find a good view of the sunset. A few turns later, I rode up to a big open field with the sun setting just behind the trees. The streets around me were absolutely peaceful and the sun set was breathtaking. The only regret that I had, was that I didn’t bring my DSLR camera along for the ride to get some good shot of the sun.
Once the sun got below the trees, I hopped back on my bike and rode home since it would be getting dark soon. Overall, my ride wasn’t especially long or far and it wasn’t the best workout that I had gotten all week, but I returned home with a silly smile on my face. Had I not gone out for the ride, I would’ve missed the gorgeous sunset. Had I not have turned on the TV, I would’ve never gone out for the ride. It’s funny how some small thing can inspire you, and through that inspiration you stumble upon something gorgeous.
Look for the beauty in the small things.
What’s the last thing that inspired you?

I saw the Kona coverage too. It is inspiring, though I missed some of the reports they usually do on “regilar” people overcoming so much just to be there.
I was in Malibu this weekend and I saw a couple amazing sunsets and a sunrise that seemed to be oming up over the Paciific Ocean!

The Poconos are beautiful, but I have to say I’ve never specifically watched a sunset. They look quite spectacular!

The sunset does wonders for me in providing inspiration. It’s when I get my best ideas and get the most clarity. I love being outside for this very reason. Glad it put a silly smile on your face, great post 🙂

Me too! Other people will watch and think those people are crazy for putting their bodies through such intense training, but I find it incredibly inspirational!

I totally know how you feel. Riding my bike always makes me feel all giddy. I think it just has something to do with being outside and going fast. I don’t know but I like it! 😉

I love going fast on my bike. In the Poconos it is hilly, or mountainous I guess since it\’s in the mountains and there are downhills like you would believe. Sometimes I\’m scared to think how bad I\’d look if I fell off the bike going down, but it\’s so worth it!
