Since Alex was born, I have wanted to make him love being outdoors and in nature. Since his first summer, I have wanted to take him camping, but being at home is hard enough with a baby, let alone in the middle of the woods. At the beginning of this summer, Alex and I were driving home from school and he asked me if we could go camping. He totally caught me off guard because we had never really talked about camping and here he was asking if we could go. I asked if he knew what camping was and he told me you sleep outside and make s’mores. Is he not a genius?
Since the first half of the summer was spent me studying basically all the time, I knew that a camping trip on my first weekend after the bar would be perfect. We stuffed the car with gear and headed out to upstate New York to Kittatinny Campgrounds in Barryville.
The forecast called for showers on Friday, but as soon as we got our tent up and the rain fly on, it started to pour and continued to pour for almost two hours.
After the deluge and worry that our tent would float away was over, the rest of the weekend was perfect. It wasn’t too hot, there was plenty of sun filtering through the trees as we had a blast.
Alex spent a lot of time exploring the river and looking for frogs.
Ever since we got home, Alex keeps asking when we can go back. Hopefully we can make it out once more this year before it gets too cold.
Have you ever been camping?
