Despite my best efforts, I am a hot mess in the mornings. I have come to terms with the fact that I will never be one of those people who wakes up at 5 AM to be productive, and that in reality I am lucky if I can make it out the door at 7 AM without forgetting something (like my dang coffee on the counter at least once a week!). I used to think that when I became a mom, things would magically fall into place and I would have my stuff together and well, that just didn’t happen. If anything it got worse because now instead of just getting myself out the door, I had to ensure that another little human was dressed, fed and ready to go. Since waking up at 5 AM still isn’t an option for me, I found some other life hacks to help me get it all done and out the door in the mornings.
- Don’t look at your phone. Social media is a huge time suck. Don’t get me wrong I love scrolling through my feeds but when I have a limited amount of time, I just avoid otherwise 10 minutes flies by and I am still laying in bed instead of being out of the shower already.
- Pick clothes the night before. Up until this year, Alex wore a uniform to school so I only really had to think about what I had to wear. Now that I need to pick two outfits for each day, it is much easier to pick it out the night before. I lay his outfit out on his dresser and he knows that when I wake him up, he needs to get dressed and washed up without me telling him. Also, in the process of our move I donated at least 10 bags of clothing between the three of us and I can say that this has made it that much easier when looking for outfits. Before my closet was packed with clothes that didn’t fit, I didn’t wear, or that I was saving for just in case. Now that I’ve streamlined our wardrobes, it is just much simpler and neater.
- Make your breakfast the night before. There is nothing worse than trying to cook when you are multi-tasking, that is why smoothies are a breakfast favorite at our house. Smoothies can be time consuming, but my biggest tip is to put everything together the night before and just blend them up quickly in the morning. A few months ago, I shared my favorite smoothie bowls that I make with my Vitamix E310 Explorian Series Blender. I am just as obsessed with this blender as I was on day one, and its powerful motor can handle even the toughest ingredients to create the smoothest smoothies. I was recently sent the Vitamix Personal Cup Adapter from Mom’s Meet and it has made our mornings even easier. I pack all our smoothie ingredients into each personal cup at night. In the morning I just add a little bit of liquid and pop them into the adapter for literally a minute to make our smoothie. The personal cups make clean up even easier because there is no transferring the smoothie from the blender to our to-go cups and the personal cups are dishwasher safe and spill proof!
- Pack everything up and leave it by the door. Done are the days of searching for the missing shoe or the missing folder when we should’ve been on the road 10 minutes ago. Before bed, we make sure everything is packed up and waiting for us by the door so in the mornings we don’t even have to think about it.
- Set alarms for everything. We all set an alarm for the time we have to wake up, but setting an alarm for when you need to be out the door is so helpful. Working with young children, we always give warning before having to transition to a different task, but it is super effective for everyone. I have a 10 minutes to go time alarm and it really helps us realize that we need to hurry it up because we have to get out the door.
I hope that these tips help your mornings!
