Resolutions get a bad wrap because most people make up some grand goal that they think a changing number on the calendar will help them achieve something that they don’t really have the means or drive to achieve themselves.

Last year, I set four goals for 2012 and looking back at the post from this time last year, I didn’t do too shabby, but that might have something to do with the fact that my goals weren’t very concrete and in turn, not to difficult to achieve. I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few weeks thinking about what I want to achieve in 2013. I think it is important to set goals that are attainable, otherwise you set yourself up for failure. That being said, these are my goals for 2013:

1. Run 13 races. Since I did the Commitment Day run, it’s one down, 12 to go.

2. Run a half marathon. I’m looking for something in the fall so that I have plenty of time to train. Ideas are welcome!

3. Follow a mostly paleo diet. I say mostly because I don’t want to tell myself that I can’t stray from the diet from time to time for special occasions or a cheat day. It’s all about balance!

4. Find a job where I can grow and expand my horizons. The last couple of months have been tough at work. I feel unappreciated and like I’m not taken seriously often. Hopefully 2013 will bring me some new opportunities!

5. Continue to grow this little old blog. I love every minute I spend blogging, answering comments and reading other blogs and blogging has really become one of my greatest passions. I hope to continue blogging and sharing my life and experiences with all of you.

I’ve also seen some bloggers choose a single word to serve as their theme for the year. I checked out the My One Word website and decided to choose pursue as my word.

PURSUE: to strive to gain; seek to attain or accomplish.

I think it fits, and it will help me stay in the mindset of getting it done!

What are your goals for 2013? What is your one word?

Happy July Everyone!
I hope this 7th month of the year is good to you, but without further ado, I want to present the first ever Monthly Goals Monday Link-up! I like to set monthly goals for myself to keep myself accountable in all sorts of things – fitness, school, eating, parenting, etc. I love sharing my goals on the blog to get support from all of you and to hear any ideas of how I can achieve my goals!
I’ve seen lots of monthly goals posts popping up on tons of different blogs so *LIGHTBULB* why not start a link-up where we can all add our posts, support each other and get those goals DONE! There are no rules or requirements, just link up your goals for the month of July and get to accomplishing them!
Frolic Through Life

July Goals

  1. Go to Crossfit 3 times a week. Tommy and I signed up for Crossfit and are starting next week! I am super excited about it, and want to make the most of my time and money there!
  2. Run at least 2 times a week. Since I’m planning on spending a lot of time at Crossfit, I am reducing this goal from last month’s 3 times a week. Even

though Crossfit is happening, I need to keep training for the 1ok!

  3. Cook at least 3 times a week. Cooking relaxes me, not to mention saves me tons of money on dinner/lunches. Win-win goal over here!
  4. Really start potty training Munchkin. My little man is going to be 2 1/2 this month and it is time to jump on the potty training wagon.
  5. Sign up for the pool with Munchkin and go to weekly Mommy and Me Swim classes. Munchkin is a fish out of water and would spend 24/7 in the pool in I let him. The Mommy and Me classes are fun and teach the basics of swimming.
  6. Learn to use my new camera. I got a Canon Rebel T3 almost a month ago, and even though I’ve learned a lot over the last month, there is a whole other world of photography that I haven’t explored. I need to learn to work in manual mode!

Now its your turn! What are your July goals?

Can someone please explain to me how July is just a day away? Nuts! The month of June flew by waaay to fast. Slow down summer, I want to savor you, not go back to school!

At the beginning of June I set some goals for myself, and I want to go back through them and see how I did, before I set myself new goals for July.

  1. Run at least 3 times a week. I didn’t succeed in this goal, but I did run at least twice a week, each week, which isn’t half bad if you ask me. I also feel that I am getting better at running though. I am able to run a whole 5k without stopping, which is an amazing feat for me since I wasn’t able to run a single lap last summer. I’m halfway to 10k!
  2. Cook at least 3 times a week. S-U-C-C-E-S-S! I have been back in the kitchen and loving it. I’ve experimented with pancakes, muffins, quioa, chili and a ton of other things. I love cooking, I just need to find the time to do it!
  3. Strength train at least twice a week. This didn’t happen every week, but Tommy and I signed up for Cross Fit so

Business habits loan for 4000 can Lewis unless disaster wealth.

July should be filled with a lot more strength training! Can’t wait to start!

  4. Eat out no more than twice a week. Another success on the food front. With cooking more, comes eating out less. I’ve also resisted pushing my lunch to the back of the work fridge and ordering out when everyone else was, which I am very proud of!
  5. Read more and finish at least one book. Done and done! I finished Unorthodox (which was a very interesting read) and am in the process of reading three books at once!
  6. Go on a bike adventure. Another success. Munchkin and I have been out of a bike a few times and the last time we did almost 5 miles around our neighborhood. I always had to literally push the push up a huge hill because I couldn’t make it up!
  7. Drink at least 72 oz of water a day. When it’s super hot out, I think I need even more water than this. I found myself very thirsty on one of my last runs even though I had drank a good amount of water during the day. I think this goal is going to be upped for July.

****I’m thinking about starting a monthly link-up, where we can all share our monthly goals. If you’d like to participate, let me knos. I want to get some feedback before I start it up!****

EDIT: Monthly Goals Monday is going live this Monday [7/2]. Hope to see your monthly goal posts!

Did you set any goals for June? How did you do?

It’s a Saturday night and I’m at home in my PJs. I’m a wild child I know! I was thinking about going out with some friends since my parents took Munchkin to PA with them for the night, but I think I’ll prefer a quiet night at home because, god knows, I don’t get many of these!

After Munchkin left, I decided to go for a run since it had been a few days since my last. I did 3.4 miles in a bit over 45 minutes and I ran for most of it, which is an accomplishment for moi!

While I was running, I got to thinking that I don’t set many goals for myself and that it might be kind of fun to set some for the month and see how I stack up at the end of the month. Without further ado, here are my June goals!

  1. Run at least 3 times a week. Even though my 10k is not until October, I know that time will fly and it will be here before I know it.
  2. Cook at least 3 times a week. I have been slacking off in the kitchen majorly.
  3. Strength train at least twice a week. Now that I’ve been running outdoors more, I’ve been slacking off on my visits to my basement gym.
  4. Eat out no more than twice a week.  Since I haven’t been cooking lately, we’ve been eating out more often. I can make yummy eats at home, and for a fraction of the cost of eating out!
  5. Read more and finish at least one book. I haven’t had time to read because of school and I’ve got a few book that I bought a loong time ago waiting to be read.
  6. Go on a bike adventure. We had a blast riding bikes over Memorial Day and I want to try out some new trails.
  7. Drink at least 72 oz of water a day. I’ve fallen off my on my water drinking. Before I started work I used to drink a ton, but now I find myself reaching for water more often.

I think these goals are totally reachable, so let’s see how I do! Wish me luck.

Do you set goals for yourself each month?

Can you belive I haven’t blogged since last year? Happy New Year Everyone! Hope you all had a great New Year’s Eve and are starting off the year on a good note!

I had a great weekend in the Poconos with some great friends and it was an awesome way to ring in the new year. Unfortunately, I have zero pictures from the weekend because I’m waiting on the DSLR owners to send me all the great pictures we took. I seriously need to upgrade to a DSLR, if only those babies weren’t so pricy. My goal is to save up and purchase one before 2013. We’ll see how that goes. When and if I get those pics (I didn’t get them until April last year!) I will share because there are some great shots, especially of Munchkin.

Almost all of us rang in the New Year with a cold, so these three things were hot items this week. We stayed away from anything with real medication so it wouldn’t interact with alcohol.

We rang in the New Year, like the rest of the world, with champagne. I’m not a fan of bitter champagne, and my favorite is Fragolino, which is strawberry sparkling wine. We had three bottles for the weekend. Two were gone at the end of the night and we used the third to make mimosas on New Year’s Day with breakfast which were very yummy. If you’re not a fan of champagne, you will love this!

So with the New Year, I want to set some new goals for myself. First and foremost, I want to kick butt in school. Since I’m almost done with all the mandatory classes, I feel like school will be getting more interesting. Hopefully, this will help keep my attention and focus on getting the homework done.

Number two on my list is out regularly. I really enjoy working out, but I always seem to find an excuse not to. My goal is to work out at least 3-4 days a week. I’m also going to be keeping track of my workouts in the Workouts tab up top, if you’re interested. I’m not setting myself and food restricting goals because I like to eat and most of the time, I eat pretty well. I feel like if I workout more regularly, I’ll be able to get into pretty good shape.

Number three is to potty train Munchkin. Self-explanatory, I think.

Number four is to grow the blog. I love writing, sharing my life and reading other blogs and I hope to continue for another year.

Hope you’re having a great first Tuesday of the year!

How did you ring in the new year? What are your goals/resolutions for this year?
