After all the hype about New York City getting submerged in water was, luckily, just hype.  Just to be sure, we made our way up to Pennsylvania on Friday night. Better to be safe than sorry, right?

We started our Friday evening off with some Chipotle for dinner. It was a total chance Chipotle encounter because we were looking for Panera, but found Chipotle in the same plaza and went for it. I got a chicken burrito bowl. We seriously need a Chipotle in my area, real bad.

I also made rhubarb muffins on Friday. They were really, really yummy and I will be sharing the recipe soon.

We went down to Philly on Friday night because Tommy needed to get his car, which he had to leave at home to get serviced.  The plan was to wake up early Saturday and go up to the Poconos.  We woke up to the phone ringing three times in a row on Saturday.  Our plan to wake up early kind of went out the window because it was already 10 AM.  For two people who don’t get to sleep in very often, we took full advantage of the sleep opportunity, even though we didn’t mean to.

As soon as we woke up, Tommy knew where he wanted to get a quick breakfast.

RJ’s Bagels looks like a little unassuming shop from outside, but once inside you find a place where all your breakfast dreams can come true.  Not only do they have really unique bagel flavors, like cranberry oat, which I want to try next time, they have something called the heart attack.

We both had heart attacks, sounds super healthy, I know.  It was egg, cheese, bacon, ham, sausage and hash browns in a wrap topped with a ton of hot sauce.

It was very good and very hot.  My mouth felt like it was on fire, but in a good way.  I also enjoyed a vanilla coffee along side my heart attack.

When we were making our way out of the Philly area, it started to rain, so we knew that Irene was on her way.  The rain got really strong in some spots, but we made it to the Poconos without a problem.

Along the way, we stopped to buy a cake because it was my cousin’s 21st Birthday on Saturday. It was an angel food cake with cream cheese frosting covered in a white chocolate shell.  I also loved the little butterflies on top of it.

We spent Saturday indoors thanks to Irene.  The storm got pretty bad at night, with the winds whipping up and rain pounding against the windows.

We woke up to some damage.

The winds were still pretty strong, but we ventured out to survey the area.

With all the leaves blown off the trees, it looked like fall had arrived early.

We decided to try to make it home in the early afternoon, in case we ran into roadblocks. The drive was pretty uneventful except for one slightly flooded spot.

In New York, it honestly doesn’t look like anything happened, which is a really good thing.

Today, Munchkin and I will be partying hard at his friend Victor’s birthday party. Have a great Monday everyone and I hope everyone is safe and dry after Irene.

Have you ever lived through a natural disaster?
What’s your favorite not-so-good-for-you breakfast?

Yesterday we took the fasted road trip in recorded history because we’re already back home!

Munchkin and I lazied around the house until about noon when I realized that we were both still in our PJs and we had to be out the door and on the road in two hours.  I quickly packed our overnight bag, hopped in the shower and got us both dressed and ready to roll.

We picked up Tommy around three and we hit the road.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous so we opened up the sunroof and took in the warmth and sun.

After about two hours and a frantic search for a bathroom because I am a five year old when it comes to car rides, we made it to Minado’s where we were meeting Tommy’s aunt, uncle and cousin for dinner. This little guy said Mom, you should wear a diaper, you don’t see me complaining!

Minado’s is a Japanese buffet which means all you can eat sushi!

The food was all incredibly fresh and there were sushi chefs whipping up new rolls as soon as one was finished.  All the sushi is made in small portions to ensure its fresh.  They also have a ton of seafood like crab legs, oysters, ceviche and hot foods like chicken and beef teriyaki, fried rice, noodles, the works.

I really enjoyed the sushi.  There were so many different kinds of rolls and sushi that I had never tried.  I only tried a few things from the hot section of the buffet, but everything was great.  With good food and good company we ended up filling our bellies then chatting it up for a really long time.  But since we still had a pit stop to make in the Philly area, we had to part ways and get back on the road.

We got to Philly, took car of business and made it home to hop into bed pretty early because we had to be back on the road at 4:30. Yes, 4:30 AM.  The only good thing I can think of about being up at the time was no traffic and watching the sunrise.

We made it back into New York at 6:30 and we dropped Tommy off and work and came home to hop back into bed.  I have to admit, I learned to appreciate my boyfriend a lot more through this road trip.  While he was in school about 3 hours outside New York, he would make these 4 AM trips into the city weekly, to go to work and still have the energy to come spend time with me after.  He’s a crazy, but I love him!

Do you like road trips?
Do you like to eat at buffets?

I spent the whole weekend in Pennsylvania with my boyfriend helping him celebrate his graduation and pack for his trip to Poland.  He is now just a few hours away from landing and I’m back home and I’m not gonna lie, I miss him already.

We were super busy this weekend.  On Thursday night, I finished my last final and drove down to Philly because we had to be up super early the next morning to drive to Tommy’s school to finish packing up his apartment and go to his graduation! I’m super proud of him and his 4.0 GPA for his last semester!

Before his graduation we went out for lunch at Acme BBQ.  This place seriously has the best BBQ I’ve ever had.  If you’re ever in Willpo, I highly recommend the brisket.

We got home pretty late that night so we didn’t do a family dinner, instead Tommy and I drove to Philly for me to see some of the city and to get a late dinner.  Not surprisingly, we decided to get sushi.  After driving around for a while, we decided on Raw Sushi & Sake Lounge.  The place is seriously amazing.  The sushi was perfect and the whole atmosphere and decor of the place was great.  We are already planning on going back when Tommy gets home.

Pretty lanterns.
Delish sushi!
Geno’s cheese steaks!
Philly has a lot of really great architecture.

We woke up early on Saturday to run errands.  First on the list was a trip to the outlet mall.  J Crew is seriously my favorite store, especially the outlet.  We both got a lot of nice things for summer and Tommy got some work clothes.  I also got munchkin some new PJs for summer and a Cars beach towel.

After we were done with out shopping for the day, we headed home to change and go out to dinner at Arirang Hibachi Steakhouse with the family, to celebrate Tommy’s graduation. I really enjoyed dinner, not only was the food amazing, our chef was hysterical and had us cracking up the whole time.

Jay, our hibachi chef.
We also went out for drinks that night, where I spilled my drink not once, but twice and also managed to shatter a glass in the process. Go me. Luckily no one was hurt.
Sunday morning we woke up and went to church and got our prayer on.  After a quick breakfast, we were off to the King of Prussia Mall because we still needed to pick up a few things for our vacations. We walked around for a while, did a lot or browsing, fell in love with LoveSac couches and had Coldstone before heading back home for a delicious dinner prepared by Tommy’s mom.
We laid on this couch for a good 15 minutes in the store.
After dinner we started on laundry and packing which we didn’t finish until 3 AM.  Granted, we did fall asleep for about an hour while waiting for a load of laundry to finish.  We also ate cheesesteaks at 11 PM.  Might not be too healthy, but they were delish and totally hit the spot. I was so tired by the time we were done that I passed out on the basement couch and slept there until morning.
We woke up this morning and drove around in circles thanks to the GPS in my iPhone.  It gave us wrong directions about four times this weekend, I really don’t know whats wrong with it! We finally got to the UPS store to weigh Tommy’s suitcase, which we were almost sure was over the 50 pound weight limit, but miraculously wasn’t.
On the way to the airport we had a lot of fun learning German phrases, because Tommy has a layover in Frankfurt.  I’m pretty sure the only word he remembers is toilet, but I think that’s a really good word to know, nonetheless.  We finally made it to the airport after standing in traffic for a bit on the turnpike.  Tommy was already checked in, so all we had to do was check his luggage and we had two hours to explore the airport.  Needless to say, there is nothing to explore at Newark airport.  JFK is my airport of choice.  We finally said our goodbyes and I waited around for a bit before leaving to make sure he got through security okay.
And now me and munchkin are all alone for one month.  I’m gonna miss Tommy like craaaazy.  He really is like my best friend and I’m pretty sure there’s no one else that I could spend that much time with and not want to kill.  Hopefully this month will fly by pretty quick, because I want him back home already!
