Hello and Happy President’s Day! I love a good three day weekend and this one was so much fun.

We started off Friday with an early Valentine’s Day dinner. Tommy and I went our for Thai food at Qi. It was our first time trying the restaurant. The food was excellent and the decor and ambiance of the restaurant was on point!

Qi food

For appetizers, we got sriracha wings and soft-shell crab. For my dinner I got Steamed Ginger Chilean Sea Bass in a Cast Iron Pot and it was delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly and the veggies and glass noodles that it was served on top were super flavorful. Tommy had the Qi Pad Thai, which was a little different from traditional Pad Thai and came wrapped in an egg crepe. It was really tasty, as well. For dessert, we shared a slice of the seasonal fruit tart with ginger ice cream on the side.  We were going to take a walk around the neighborhood and check out some new shops, but it was already getting so cold that we decided to head home after just two blocks.

Saturday was cleaning day. We tidied up the house and I pulled out our infusion pitcher that we got for our Bridal Shower and made some strawberry lemon water.

We started getting stir crazy in the afternoon and decided to brave the cold and head out to do some shopping. We went to a few stores, more to kill time than to shop and when the sun went down it got downright cold. By the time we got home the temperatures were in the single digits, which is rare in NYC.

Since it was getting late and we didn’t really feel like cooking a big meal, we decided on making pizza for dinner. I picked up two whole wheat pizza crusts at Aldi last week for less than a dollar. They baked up nice and crisp and made a great dinner for less than what we would have paid for two slices at the pizzeria.

On Sunday, we woke up to record breaking cold. I can’t remember it ever being in the negatives for real feel temperatures. Alex and I did some experiments to see how quickly things could freeze outside.

Alex loved his Valentine’s gifts and spent most of the day drawing Pokemon.

I absolutely adore the jewelry from Alex And Ani that the boys got me, and I can’t wait to wear it!

In the afternoon, Alex helped me with some photography for the blog. If you every wondered how bloggers get those nice pictures, then wonder no more. Tommy walked into the kitchen and caught us looking like this, trying to snap the perfect shot.

I get Alex to help by bribing him with chocolate chips.

We stayed in for the rest of the day and just relaxed and watched some TV.

How was your Valentine’s Day Weekend?

I love decorating the house for different holidays. I can spend hours in Homegoods or Michael’s going through the home decor sections, looking for the perfect little addition that will make the house a little more cozy and festive. What I don’t love is red and hot pink plastic garland wreaths which start popping up in all the stores around Valentine’s Day. I prefer a muted palette and more understated decor, which is why I decided to make my own wreath for our front door.

The whole project from start to finish took me less than two hours. The most tedious part is the wrapping, but once you get the hang of it, it is easy, just time consuming. I did most of the wrapping in front of the TV while watching Two Broke Girls, so it wasn’t all that bad.

To make this wreath you will need:

  • 1 Styrofoam Wreath Form (I used an 8 inch one)
  • Jute (I found little rolls (25 yards) in the clearance section and used about 2 1/2 )
  • Hot glue gun
  • Artificial flowers or anything else you would like the embellish with

To start, I taped down one end of the jute to the wreath and just started wrapping. When I came to the end of my roll, I tied a little knot with the end to the start of the new roll and kept going. I tried to make sure that the little knots were toward the back so they didn’t take away from the look of the wreath.

Once the whole wreath was wrapped, I hot glued the end and moved on to the fun part, the decorations.

My biggest piece of advice is to space everything out before gluing. I tried a few different combos before I found the one I liked best. Once I was happy with the way it looked, I started gluing.

I am really happy with the way the wreath turned out, especially the color scheme of it. I was thinking that I could remove the hearts after Valentine’s Day and re-purpose it into a spring/Easter wreath.

What do you think? Do you enjoy DIY projects?

I hope you all have a great day filled with lots of love and just a little bit of chocolate!

Since I have school tonight, Tommy and I will be celebrating Valentine’s this weekend. I know that there’s lots of people who don’t like Valentine’s Day because it is commercial, but it’s nice to have a day in the year to do something extra special for the ones you love!

What are your Valentine’s Day plans?

Good morning boys and girls! I hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day and got showered with flowers, candy and all things lovey dovey. All I can say is that I got majorly spoiled, but before I get get into that, it’s time for WIAW – V Day Edition!

I started off with a very V Day themed breakfast. I made myself oatmeal in my heart shaped bowl, but this was no ordinary oatmeal. I tried a few things that I saw on Courtney’s blog and let the oats and chia seeds soak while I was getting ready and I added in an egg white before I started cooking. The combo of the two left me with an amazing creamy bowl of oats. I have a feeling this will be my go to oatmeal recipe. I topped the oatmeal with strawberries and Love Grown Granola. BTW did you see the giveaway Love Grown Oats was doing yesterday?!

Lunch came in the form of a salad. I threw together spinach, green peppers, tomatoes, avocado, corn, cheddar cheese and some deli ham before running out the door in the morning. I topped it off with some light Ceasar dressing and it totally hit the spot for lunch.

I couldn’t finish my lunch without a little bit of sweet so I dug into a a Cliff Z Chocolate chip bar. These things really taste like cookies. So good!

Dinner was something really special. As soon as I got to Tommy’s place, I was greeted with a glass of vino. Cabernet Sauvignon to be exact.

Tommy made me a surprise dinner of bacon wrapped scallops, steak, quinoa, zucchini and mushrooms. It was a-mazing. Better than any meal we could’ve gotten in a restaurant, fo sho!

If dinner wasn’t enough, there was dessert! Tommy made chocolate covered strawberries all by himself! And there was bubbly of course!

To top it all off, I still got gifts! Am I a lucky gal or what?! I got the usual Valentine’s day goodies – flowers, purple tulips!, and candy – Ferrero Rocher and Peep hearts!

Aaaaaaand… I also got a Snuggie! I’ve wanted a Snuggie since the infomercials started on TV years ago and now I finally have one! It might look a little goofy, but it is so warm and snuggly.

I can honestly say I had the best Valentine’s Day I’ve ever had and Tommy is going to have some major planning to do to top this one because I absolutely loved everything!

Have a great Wednesday!

How did you spend Valentine’s Day? What’s the best thing you ate yesterday?
