In my phone, I have a running list of things that I love and want to share, but lately I haven’t been so good with sharing. I thought it would be fun to start doing an old school blog feature – a Friday Five. Five things that I’ve been really enjoying lately and I think are worth a recommendation.

Megababe Geo Deo: If you have been looking for a good, natural deodorant, look no further. I have tried them all, from drugstore to higher end (cough cough Beautycounter $31 deodorant cough cough) and this one is hands down the best EVER. It was in the 90s this week and I was dry and fresh.  I am on my second stick and I’ve never had the nasty rash that comes with lots of other natural deodorants that have baking soda. I don’t know how they did it, but this stuff is the bomb.

Old Navy Sunday Sleep PJs: I’m usually not a matching PJ type of girl, but I have fallen in love with these from Old Navy. They come in a ton of cute patterns, are super soft and make the best work from home bottoms. I’ve only gotten the shorts version so far, but they do have a variety of cuts including joggers and long sleeve tops. Old Navy pro tip: wait for a sale to buy. They literally have sales multiple times a week, so you won’t have to wait long.

FURemover Compact Broom: If you have pets that shed, you need this broom. I’ve had tons of traditional brooms that just send the dog hair into the air and never clean it up. This one collects the hair into a giant pile super easily allowing you so much time to stare and wonder how a small dog could produce so much fur.

Birkenstock Big Buckle: I have been a Birkenstock fan for years and I think you either love them or hate them. They are super comfortable, took zero time to break in and are so cute with the big gold buckles. I know I will have these for years because even though the price is steep, Birkenstocks last forever!

Sol de Janiero Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 68 Beija Flor Perfume Mist: This was an unexpected purchase but I am obsessed with. I was at Kohl’s with Alex looking for a polo for his spring concert when we discovered Kohl’s now has Sephora inside! We browsed some of the aisles and I sprayed this since I had never seen it before, and I knew I had to have it. When your 12 year old says you need to buy it, you know it’s a good find. According to the package, it has notes of pink dragonfruit, lychee, Brazilian jasmine, ocean air and hibiscus, but to my untrained nose it smells amazing and is the perfect sweet, summer fragrance.

If you do a quick google search, there are tons of stories about how millennials treat their pets like their children. To be honest, before adopting Zoey, I didn’t really get it. Now that she has been part of our family for almost two years, all I can say, is how can you not treat your pet like your baby?!

Zoey’s little wagging tail greets me every morning, whenever I come back home and any time I pull out a bag of our favorite Old Mother Hubbard treats. Old Mother Hubbard treats are a staple in our home. We use them to brush up on Zoey’s tricks and training and any time we want to give her a yummy reward for being so cute! Even though she’s the one getting the treat, it makes me so happy to see how excited she gets for these little biscuits.

During the winter, it can be tough to make sure that your furry friend is getting enough exercise due to the cold weather. During the last snow storm, we came up with a fun game for Zoey that helps her get her exercise while enjoying her favorite treats. After bundling up, I grab a handful of Zoey’s favorite P-Nuttier biscuits and head outside with her.

Once she smells the treat in my hand, I toss it into the snow and give her and her nose a workout. It is so fun to see her barrel through the snow to find the treats and her little snow covered face is a sight to see! We do this until we get too cold, run out of treats or both. Afterwards, we all pile on the couch in front of the fireplace to warm up, with hot cocoa for us and more biscuits for Zoey.

Just like choosing food for my family, making sure that Zoey’s treats are all natural is important. I know that Old Mother Hubbard treats have been around since 1926 and are made with good, wholesome ingredients (that I can actually pronounce!). Stocking up on Old Mother Hubbard Treats is a must on every Target trip. We make sure to never be without the Classic P-Nuttier flavor that Zoey loves because her wagging tail when she sees her favorite biscuits, makes us all so happy. Dog parenting win-win!

Be sure to pick up some Old Mother Hubbard treats for your pup on your next Target run, or click to add them to your cart!

Happy treating!

If you treat yourself to one gift this holiday season, it should be the Spanx Faux Leather Leggings! They are hands down one of my favorite items in my closet.  They are so versatile that you can wear them to lounge around the house and to date night and everything in between. They are also universally flattering and look good on everyone, regardless of your size.

My first look is date night. I paired the Spanx faux leather leggings with a black tunic blouse, leopard flats and a cute hunter green moto jacket. Add some cute earrings and your favorite purse and you are ready to hit the town!

My second look is cozy at home. We’ve all been spending so much time at home these days, and the Spanx leggings are the perfect stay at home companion. Pair them with an oversized sweatshirt and some cozy socks for extra comfort.

My third look is a casual look. This is something I would wear to run errands  and to drop off Alex at sports. My checkerboard Vans are definitely my most worn shoes and my Barefoot Dreams cardigan is another must have. They make you look put together while staying super comfy.

I hope you love your Spanx faux leather leggings as much as I do!

When we bought our home, we love the location and the land more than we loved the house itself. We knew that we were going to do extensive renovations inside, so all that mattered was the one thing that we couldn’t change – the property. We loved that the house had two separate outdoor living spaces. We have a porch off of our living room where we have a dining table and our grill set up and we have this second patio off of the downstairs family room that we have turned into our chill zone. Its the perfect spot to sit out in the morning to enjoy my coffee and make after dinner s’mores and have a drink in the evenings.

When we moved in, this space looked very different, as did all the landscaping or lack thereof. We actually ended up with the patio furniture by mistake. Our first winter at our house, we went shopping for a snow blower and ended up finding the furniture on crazy clearance. It wasn’t even on display anymore, so we had to google the codes on the box and cross out fingers that it was actually what was inside the box. I think we made a good deal and never ended up finding a snow blower.

We started our patio update last summer when Tommy built the corner planters with poles to hang up the string lights. We also got our little coffee table and fire column. We loved the space, but it was a little bare.

Early this summer, we repainted the patio with Behr Porch and Patio paint in Grey Mist. When it became apparent that any summer plans we had for this year were going out the window, I decided did some retail therapy and purchased the rest of the decor and accessories to make this space extra cozy. Having an outdoor space to hang out in has helped so much during quarantine. Even when it was still chilly outside, I would grab a sweater and my laptop and work out here for a change of scenery.

I think the real MVP of this patio update has been out Minnidip pool. I know that they are sold out everywhere, but if you can get your hands on one of these, don’t think twice. It’s the perfect size for lounging on the hottest days with a drink and a good book and still big enough for Alex to “snorkel”  in.

This space has transformed so much since we moved in and I love how is has turned out. You can use the images below to shop items from this post for your patio update.

Now that you’ve checked out my decor, check out the posts that these lovely ladies are sharing on their blog!

And as always, if you got any inspo for your own space from my patio update, share it on Instagram and don’t forget to tag me!

If you know me, you know that my love for Target shoes runs strong.  When I go to work in new shoes, my coworkers will look at my shoes and say “Let me guess, Target?” I can’t help it! Target sandals are cute, super affordable and come in tons of styles (often inspired by much more expensive brands) so that you can be on trend, for cheap!

Aside from being super affordable to begin with, a few times a year, usually once a season, Target holds their BOGO sales making them just too good to pass up. This is when I usually pick up some cute, new shoes. Target is having their summer sale right now, so I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite Target sandals. And yes, these are 10 of my favs which means that I have more than 10 pairs of sandals from Target. I’m telling you, they’re that good!

If you buy any of my favs, share them on Instagram and tag me (@frolic_life_syl), so we can be twins!

Happy shopping!

At night, when everyone is in bed and the house is cleaned up, I love to relax on the couch and just enjoy our home. Sometimes I need to pinch myself to realize that we really do live here, and that we bought a 1980s fixer upper and made it our dream home. I had always dreamed of being a homeowner (and I have years of Pinterest boards to prove it), but the road to home ownership isn’t always easy.

One thing they don’t teach you in school is how important your credit score is. It can literally change the course of your life because with a poor credit score, you may not get approved for a mortgage and unless you hit the lotto, you can kiss your dreams of a home goodbye.

Before buying our home, my husband and I went on a saving spree. We buckled down so that we could pay off all of our debt (student loans and credit cards) and save as much as possible for our down payment. I’ll be honest, it sucked at the time to go without, but it was so worth it. We were able to raise our credit scores and get an excellent mortgage rate. We were also able to finance other parts of our home renovation at 0%, which is like getting free money for few months to make big purchases more manageable. None of this would have been possible without our strong credit scores.

Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Tons of things can happen that affect your credit score and it may feel like it’s impossible to achieve your goals. Sometimes there are mistakes in your credit history, or your identity is stolen. Enter the skilled team of  lawyers and paralegals at Lexington Law. Lexington Law is a consumer advocacy law firm with over a decade of experience helping hundreds of thousands of Americans take steps to improve their credit. They work to resolve issues with creditors, data furnishers and credit bureaus and ensure that your credit reports are fair, accurate and substantiated.

If you want to start improving your credit, a free credit report consultation with Lexington Law is a great first step. They can look at your credit scores from all three bureaus and help you determine what steps to take to get you on track. Even if your credit score is good, Lexington Law is a great resource to use to monitor your credit. Since your credit is something that can affect so many aspects of your life, you want to make sure that everything that shows up on your reports is accurate.

The Lexington Law website/app has tons of great resources that explain how credit scores are calculated, which things affect your credit score the most and what steps to take to correct your credit. They can also help with things like protecting your identity and getting off all of those pesky junk mail and spam phone call lists.

The good news is that your credit score is not written in stone. There are lots of steps you can take to improve it and Lexington Law can help you work towards your credit goals!

As much as I love the fall, as soon as Halloween passes, I am ready to break out the Christmas decor. There is something about Christmas decor that adds a special coziness to the house. But before we can bring Christmas into the house, I like to do some winter cleaning – like spring cleaning, but in the winter!

A clean house is like a blank canvas. You don’t have to worry about moving clutter from one corner to another and it makes it easier to plan out all the fun Christmas decor. I love to lay out all our decor and plan out what goes where before getting started with decorating. I also like to take down a lot of our non-seasonal decor to make room for Christmas and to ensure that our house isn’t looking cluttered with too many items competing for your eye.

I love that I have passed down my love of all things Christmas to Alex. He is always excited to pick out the decor for his room and to decorate his little tree with all of his favorite ornaments. While he isn’t always thrilled for the cleaning that needs to be done, he knows that the faster we get it done the faster we can decorate!

With Christmas decor comes floors covered in flocking and glitter. I can always count on Bona to get the floors clean, but when they need a little extra help, I reach for the big guns – the Bona PowerPlus Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner. The oxygenated formula loosens and removes heavy dirt build-up, providing a deep clean for my floors without any extra effort. I just spray the floors down and go over them with my Bona Premium Microfiber Mop for sparkling clean floors. I also love how quickly the floors dry because anyone who has kids or pets knows that it is impossible to keep them from making footprints all over your freshly washed floors!

Getting all our cleaning done quickly with Bona leaves lots of time for the fun stuff – visiting Santa, watching ALL the Christmas movies and shopping for our friends and family.

When do you start decorating for Christmas?

Since I was a little girl, I’ve looked forward to Christmas all year long. Now that we have our own home, we love hosting during the holidays. There is something so special about a house decorated to the nines, filled with family and friends and, of course, food! Food and flavors have the power to transport us back in time and to remind us of our happiest moments.

I’ve teamed up with McCormick® to bring you two of my favorite holiday recipes. I have been using McCormick® spices since I was a child. I remember standing on a stool in my mother’s kitchen helping her pull spices out of the cabinet so that we could start our holiday cooking. I am happy that I am now making these same types of memories with my own son. Hopefully one day, he will make some of these recipes with his own kids!

The first is a spin on a classic cookie recipe that I have been making since I was a little girl. The original recipe came from my neighbor at my childhood home. She would make these cookies every holiday season and gift them to all the neighbors on our block. While her cookies were delicious, I am known for having to put my own spin on things. Since I love all things pumpkin spice, the addition of McCormick®’s ground cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice make these cookies that much better! Pro tip: we leave these cookies for Santa every year and the presents he brings us are pretty epic.

Pumpkin Spice Madeleine Cookies

  • 4 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour (sifted)
  • 3 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick® Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon McCormick® Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • powdered sugar
  • Madeleine pan
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Sift together flour, cinnamon and pumpkin spice, set aside.

  3. In a 3 quart saucepan, over low heat, whisk eggs and sugar until creamy and lukewarm (not hot).

  4. Remove from heat and whisk until cool.

  5. Add vanilla.

  6. After mixture cools, add in half of the flour and butter, whisk until smooth, and then add remaining halves. Continue to whisk until smooth and creamy.

  7. Using a pastry brush, lightly butter and flour the Madeleine pan.

  8. Fill pan 2/3 full and bake for 12-15 minutes or until edges brown.

  9. Sprinkle with  a mixture of confectioner’s sugar and cinnamon. Makes about 35 cookies.

My second recipe is for an eggplant dip that has quickly become a family favorite. We first tried this dip when we stopped at a farm stand in our new town soon after we moved to Connecticut. The dip was delicious and we were all obsessed with it and I started my journey to recreate it at home.

The fresh, simple ingredients in this dip come together so well and the flavor is enhanced by the McCormick® spices. Since holiday treats are usually on the more decadent side, this dip is a great, light option to serve guests and perfect before a big meal.

Roasted Eggplant Dip

  • 2 medium eggplants
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 medium tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • McCormick® Garlic Salt, to taste
  • McCormick® Black Pepper, to taste
  1. Sprinkle eggplant with salt on both sides and place in a colander in the sink to drain excess water. After 10 minutes, lightly rinse with water and then press dry between two towels.

  2. Preheat over to broil.

  3. Arrange eggplant rounds on a baking sheet drizzle with olive oil, a pinch of McCormick® Garlic Salt and fresh cracked Black Pepper. Roast for 5-minutes on each side. Remove from pan and let cool to the touch.

  4. While eggplant is roasting, heat a large skillet over low-medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add in onion sliced into half moons and stir often until caramelized. Once the onion is translucent, add in teaspoon of sugar and continue stirring.

  5. Place the tomatoes into a large bowl and cover with boiling water. Drain water and carefully peel tomato skin and cube. Add cubed tomatoes into the onion and continue sautéing until the tomatoes melt into the onion.

  6. Peel away the skin off the eggplant and add flesh to the pan. Stir to combine eggplant, onion and tomatoes.

  7. Add additional Garlic Salt and Black Pepper if necessary.

  8. Serve with a crusty baguette.

When I need to stock up on all of the McCormick® Herbs and Spices that I need for all my holiday cooking, I always head to Stop and Shop. I can always count on fully stocked shelves and every spice under the sun, and then some!

I hope that you these recipes I shared become a part of your holiday celebrations too! If you make any of these recipes, share them on social media and make sure to tag me and McCormick®!

If I could choose one chore to never have to do again, it would be cleaning the floors. If you have kids or pets (or both!) you know that when you clean the floors, they stay clean for about five minutes. So when I found out I could outsource the floors, to this wonderful little robot, I was all over it!

We’ve had robotic vacuums before, but the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950 is not your typical robotic vacuum. Let me tell you about my favorite features:

  • It mops! You read that right, in addition to vacuuming, this little guy mops the floors. It has technology built in that differentiates hard floors from rugs and carpets, so there is no worrying about soggy rugs!
  • It can clean the whole house on one charge! With a 3 hour run time, the DEEBOT OZMO 950 can clean our whole house without having to recharge between rooms.
  • It maps our your house! The first time I ran the vacuum, it scanned the whole house and created a map in the app. It does this to ensure that it reaches every corner of your house, but also gives you the power to block off rooms or areas in the house where you don’t want it to go.

  • Its fits everywhere! The DEEBOT OZMO 950 is one of the slimmest robotic vacuums on the market and fits under all of our beds without any trouble. It actually pushed a flip flop out from under our bed that I had been looking for since the summer!
  • It has a great app! You start by connecting the vacuum to the app by scanning the QR code sticker on the OZMO. From there you can set automatic run times, get notifications about the vacuum when you aren’t home and set specific areas of the house to clean. It also shows you the path that the OZMO takes cleaning the whole house and is compatible with other smart devices. Hey google, clean the floors!

  • It picks up all the things! It has three levels of suction – standard, max and max+ and even on the standard level it picks up everything! We have hand-scraped hardwood floors that are “wavy” to the touch and our old vacuum that issues picking things up off of it due to the texture, but not the OZMO. It also picks up pet hair like a champ!

Now that I’m not spending tons of time trying to keep our floors clean, I have so much more time. When you work from home it’s tempting to do chores during the work day, but with the OZMO I can work while my chores do themselves. I also know that this robotic vacuum is going to be a lifesaver for the next few weeks while I am recovering from foot surgery because even though I’m not a doctor, I’m pretty sure vacuuming on crutches isn’t recommended.

So sit back, catch up on your Netflix and that stack of books waiting to be read, while the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950 does the cleaning for you!

P.S. This is a great item to add to your Christmas lists!
