Between work, school, being a mom and girlfriend, I often struggle to find the time to workout. As much as I would love to join a gym and take classes, I lack the time to make that kind of commitment. I also love to do workout videos mainly because I love to watch someone do the workout with me – it ensures that I don’t miss reps and get it done. I recently found out about a new fitness service called FitnessGlo. I have mentioned it a few times on the blog before, but after trying it out for over a month, it’s time to let you know why I love it so much!

welcome

First of all, the workouts are split into different categories and you can choose a workout by style, teacher, level and duration. My favorite way to make sure that I get a workout in the little time that I have most morning is by clicking on the duration tab. The workouts range from 5 to 45 minute, and you can create a playlist to combine workouts, without having to stop and fiddle with your computer. FitnessGlo was created by women with busy women in mind and I think they were spot on in regards to this feature.

time

There is a good variety of workouts too. It’s not just all cardio either, there are strength training, step and click and go classes and even my new favorite – barre.  The first barre classes appeared on FitnessGlo about two weeks after I started using it, and they have been my go to classes. They also add new classes three times a week, so there is basically an endless supply of new workouts. You can’t get bored! I also really like the stretching. I sit behind a desk for basically 10+ hours a day, and I come home feeling really tight and achy. The stretches work wonders.

classes

The best part about FitnessGlo is that I can do my workout in my pjs and no one gives me dirty looks. I roll out of bed and get my workout done. I can also put on a class at anytime during the day. When I get bored with chores and laundry – relax with a quick FitnessGlo class. I also love that for most of the classes, you don’t need much more that some weights and a mat. You can also control your intensity level by using heavier weights. I did the Hit Every Major Muscle Group in 20 twice – once with five pound weights and once with eights and you could feel the difference, even with only three extra pounds.

Aside from just the classes, the FitnessGlo website has a lot of cool features to track your fitness. You can favorite classes, so that when you fall in love with a class, you don’t have to search through classes to find it. They also track which classes you have done, so if you’re like me and like to do new classes, you will know which ones you have under your belt already. There is also a balance tracker that tracks the percentages of cardio, strength and stretching that you do each week in order to ensure that you aren’t focusing on one area too much. You can also create your schedule for the week and have e-mail or iCal reminders sent to so you don’t forget.

FitnessGlo is offering a 15 day free trial to everyone so that you can see if you love the classes before you sign up for the $12/month fee based subscription. They were also kind enough to offer one of my readers a free 90-day subscription, and all you have to do it hit up the Rafflecopeter below! Happy sweating!

I must confess, I am a tech junkie. My phone is glued to my hand way too often and I am always carrying around my charger in case my battery dies. If there is an app for that, I probably already have it on my iPhone and iPad. That being said, technology isn’t always a bad thing. It can make our lives easier, more organized and in check. There are thousands, maybe millions, of fitness apps on the market these days, and while I haven’t tried them all yet, I wanted to share my thought on three that I really enjoy.

First up is iFit Running. Run tracking apps are a dime a dozen these days and I have about four on my phone right now, (I may be an app hoarder) but iFit running is my go to running app lately. I really like its interface and that is it easy to use with the quick start option. I also really like that it’s not your typical tracking app where you press start and go. You can get it for distance, time and calories burned, so when you reach your goal, it tells you that you can stop now!

Workout Buddy is something that Tommy told me about. This is a great app for when you want to workout, but just don’t know what to do. With Fitness Buddy, you can create your own workouts by selecting the part of your body you want to work out and then selecting which moves you can do with the equipment – free weights, kettlebells, resistance bands, cable machine (or lack of) that you have on hand. You can also use to to track your weights and reps and it has step by step photos of how to do each workout correctly. It’s a great app for those who are beginning with weight training.

Last but not least, is the Foam Roller App. If you’re like me, than you never really knew there was a correct technique for foam rolling, you kind of just roll where it hurts to soothe your muscles. Enter Foam Roller App.

Not only does this app have videos to show you how to foam roll effectively, it also has written explanations and little tips on how to move which body part to be most effective.

I hope you find these apps helpful!

What are your favorite apps?

[FTC: I was provided free downloads of the iFit Running and Foam Roller App. All opinions are my own!]

This is a post that I’ve wanted to bring to life for a long time. Ever since I started my fitness/weight loss journey, I have had many, many people tell me that I am doing it wrong. Now, let me explain, if I was hearing this kind of advice from a nutritionist, a personal trainer, or a doctor, I’d open my ears and try to adsorb every last word they say, but that is not the case. It seems that every person who is trying to tell me how to be healthy, is incredibly far from it themselves, and it really upsets me to have to defend myself and my lifestyle to anyone.

I have been told to try crazy diets that border on starvation, that involve eating canned tuna or sauerkraut for almost every meal and that water with cucumber slices is the key to ridding my body of excess water because it will make me pee more often. News flash, drinking any type of water will make you pee more often. Plus, my plain water in my Camelbak is doing me just fine, thank you very much!

I have been offered and repeatedly encouraged to try weight loss pills that are illegal in the United States. The person who offered them to me had them shipped from Hong Kong and ignored the fact that they have lead to heart attacks and strokes, in effort to find a quick way to lose a few pounds. Not to mention, the same person suffers from high blood pressure and is putting their life on the line for a quick fix. Just because a friend of a friend tells you something is a magic pill, doesn’t mean it really is. You can’t sprinkle anything on your food to make it less calories either. Sorry to burst your bubble, but those fries are a calorie bomb any way you look at it. Not to mention, they are almost completely devoid of the nutrients your body needs to nourish itself, because after all, that is the reason we eat.

I have been working my butt off for the last couple months. I work out regularly, I eat fairly well (this could always be better), but I’m a work in progress. I feel stronger and fitter everyday and I have even gone down a size in clothing. I feel amazing and I see my body changing. The process isn’t instantaneous like most people would like. It takes a lot of sweat and tears to reach you fitness goals, but I am getting there step by step.

So you can keep your diet plans, your pills and your magical waters because I’m not interested in doing it your way, my way is working just fine.
